Saudis taking lead in battling Huthis: analysts

RIYADH (AFP) Saudi Arabia appears to be taking the lead in Yemen’s effort to crush Huthi rebels, despite Riyadh’s insistence that it only aims to secure its porous border, security analysts say.
One month after Saudi forces struck back after rebels carried crossed the border in a brief but deadly raid, Saudi jets, helicopters and artillery continued to attack Huthi positions along the Yemeni frontier early this week, according to Saudi press reports.
On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz stressed that the goal of the biggest Saudi military mobilisation since the 1990-91 Gulf War is protecting Saudi sovereignty, not encroaching on Yemen.
Saudi Arabia “will not allow anyone to gain a foothold on its land,” he said.

Is a Paper Resume Still Needed?
by admin on Dec.27, 2009, under Uncategorized
These days everything has gone digital including resumes, which begs the question, is a paper resume still needed? There are many sites online now that you can go to and upload a digital version of your resume and more employers than ever before will have access to it. While the digital revolution is indeed a great one, there are still times where having the old standby of a paper resume is handy indeed.
Here are some times when you will find having a paper resume to your advantage:
*Beating the streets: Yes this is the old fashion way of job hunting. The idea here is to print out a dozen or so copies of your resume in paper form and hit the road. Whatever job it is you are trying to get, like insurance sales for example, will get a resume from you and if you don’t get a job the first day out you will try handing out another dozen paper resumes the next day. Eventually you will land a job. This type of tenacity is rare indeed these days, but you should never underestimate the power of a good personal introduction.
*Faxing potential employers: There are many job opportunities that want you to do nothing more than fax them a resume and then they will contact you if they are interested. It is true that there are programs now that will digitally fax a copy of your resume to the potential employer for you, but many people don’t have this software in which case it is easier to make a paper copy and fax it over and over again.
*Networking: When you are looking for a job you should be talking to everyone about it and not just your friends and family. You never know who could be out there waiting to hire someone just like you. If you do happen to meet someone who is interested in your services what are you going to do, tell them to check out your resume online? It can never hurt you, but it may help you to have a few paper resumes handy wherever it is you are going. Print them out and put them in a folder and leave that folder in your car

Company Touts 100 Percent of Its Experts Are Verified Through Industry’s Most Stringent Screening Process
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ — JustAnswer[R], the website where people go when they want an answer from a Doctor, Lawyer, or one of thousands of Experts one-on-one, has just significantly raised the bar for quality of expertise for all consumer question and answer sites. The company is the first of its kind to achieve 100 percent verified Experts, all of whom are vetted through what is by far the most rigorous screening process in the industry – a mere 5.3 percent of applicants are approved and become Experts on JustAnswer.

“By percentages, it’s harder to become an Expert on JustAnswer than it is to get into Harvard,” says Emily Reber Porter, JustAnswer’s Director of Expert Quality and Harvard Law School Alumna.
100 Percent Verified Experts
The thousands of Experts on JustAnswer answering questions in more than 100 categories have all had their credentials reviewed by one of two leading third-party verification companies – both of which are Global Fortune 500 companies. Every Expert in every category on JustAnswer has had their identity and at least one credential verified – such as a license, certification, educational degree, or employment history – that is relevant to the category in which they’re answering questions.
Obtaining the verification companies’ approval is just one part of JustAnswer’s multi-step corroboration procedure. Potential Experts are administered tests in the subject matter of their respective fields. Applicants who refuse or do not pass either the verification process or the test are not accepted as Experts. Even after approval, Experts must continue to earn the right to provide answers to customers on JustAnswer. They must earn high customer satisfaction ratings, and they are subject to ongoing peer review by other Experts on JustAnswer.
“Millions of registered users around the world come to JustAnswer for answers to questions in over 100 areas that require advanced training, specific experience or specialized education,” said JustAnswer CEO Andy Kurtzig. “Other answer sites leave their customers in the hands of high school students to answer questions. But, we only provide customers with access to Doctors, Lawyers, and other verified Experts in their respective fields.”

Switch from cars to buses boosts passenger numbers; Municipal transport company sees turnover surge by pounds 1m
by admin on Dec.16, 2009, under Uncategorized
0 Comments | Western Mail (Cardiff, Wales), Nov 28, 2009
Byline: Aled Blake
COMMUTERS taking the bus instead of using their cars have helped a bus company grow turnover by more than pounds 1m in the past year.
Newport Transport, the municipally owned bus company serving Newport, said turnover in 2008/09 stood at pounds 10.15m, with pre-tax profits of pounds 180,000, up from pounds 143,580 the previous 12 months.
The company saw passenger numbers rise to 7.5 million, from 7.2 million the year before.
As part of the company’s performance related pay scheme, staff at Newport Transport will receive a bonus of more than pounds 150 because of the financial results.
Investment also grew in 2009 with more than pounds 2m committed to new vehicles, staff, infrastructure and services, while Newport Transport also expanded its staffing level by 25% in the past six months.
The company now employs 250 people, 150 of whom are bus drivers.
Chris Blyth, Newport Transport’s managing director, put the strong financial performance down to a “modal shift” in consumer patterns.
He said: “We have had an independent review done and there was evidence of a move from cars to buses, with an increase in numbers of people using public transport.
“The frequency of our services and the quality is important as well.”
Mr Blyth admitted the recession might have had a positive impact on the company’s performance, with people looking at ways of saving money.
Disruption in Newport city centre will also have contributed to the rise in passenger numbers and the company’s financial growth, according to Mr Blyth.
He said: “One hopes that when there is a modal shift, for whatever reason, that the experience they have using the bus service makes them continual users rather than reverting back to the car.
“We have plans in the new year to encourage more people on to our buses through an exciting fares strategy.
“I’m convinced that the quality of service we provide has been the main driver behind passenger growth and the financial success of the company.”
Mr Blyth said the company, which is owned by Newport Council, was able to reinvest in the business and expand at a time when other firms have been forced into cutbacks.
Money is invested in socially necessary services that might not be provided if the company was not owned by the council, said Mr Blyth.
Mr Blyth said it was on track to grow passenger numbers by 4% in the current financial year.
“We have recruited a network manager who will look at what we do and build on the changes that we’ve made across the network, giving people the bus services they want, when they want them.
“Hopefully, we can reward the shareholder if we continue to grow and be profitable.”
Mr Blyth said the company had no special plans in place for the Ryder Cup being held at Newport’s Celtic Manor Resort in October next year, with special bus services being run by the golf tournament itself.
“We are going to showcase our existing bus services that operate 52 weeks a year,” he said.
“We are satisfied that the quality and frequency of services we provide will cope with any increase in demand during the Ryder Cup.”
Looking ahead, Mr Blyth said that a deputy managing director would be appointed early next year.
