Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, announced the release of its color laser multifunction printer (MFP), the MultiXpress CLX-8540ND.
According to Samsung, the CLX-8540ND is currently offered by the company’s network of service dealers and OA distributors.
“The CLX-8540ND is our flagship hybrid printer designed as a printer-copier solution for workgroups in large corporate environments and for copy-intensive small-to-mid size businesses,” said Doug Albregts, VP, Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Along with being one of the fastest digital color printers on the market, the CLX-8540ND also bridges the gap between Letter/Legal verses Ledger printers by including printer and copier features usually only found on larger machines.”
The CLX-8540ND prints up to 40 pages per minute (PPM) output capability and up to a 100,000 sheet monthly duty cycle. To process multiple jobs, the CLX-8540ND is equipped with an 800 MHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The optional paper tray capacity, expandable to 2,720 sheets, allows the CLX-8540ND to run large print jobs without interruption.
The CLX-8540ND’s Real-Time Calibration Technology creates color prints at 9,600 x 600 dpi. Samsung’s Easy Color Manager software allows on-screen adjustment of color balance, brightness, contrast and saturation. Documents, either letter or legal, can also be scanned at an enhanced up to 4,800 x 4,800 dpi and then saved, printed, e-mailed or faxed to any networked location.
Corporate printing solutions software packages also are available. The SyncThru Admin 5 and SynThru Web Services packages provide internal controls for remote network monitoring and internal auditing

Get clipping for formal style that's.. SHEAR CLASS

FORMAL GEOMETRY (Main picture)
THIS triangular-shaped modern-style house lends itself to a formal-style garden with geometric patterns such as the rectangular pond running the length of the lawn.
Expert tip In a formal layout, keep the planting schemes simple by choosing a definite colour scheme or plant style. White is one of the commonest choices for a formal garden, and can be used to brighten up a shady garden, but for the best effect throw in dashes of colour as an accent. pounds How much Large pond kit (12,000 litres), pounds 319.99 (www.pondkeeper.co.uk, 01642 3 70888).
STATEMENT PLANTERS
USE containers to make big statements. White planters with green foliage stand out well, especially when tall pots are planted with small round box spheres and either lined up in rows or used in pairs on either side of an entrance to create symmetry.
Expert tip Create a green “sphere” quickly, using ivy. Make a simple topiary frame by filling a wire form with sphagnum moss, and cover it with trailing ivy.

SYMMETRY
THE symmetrical balance of a formal design can be achieved on any scale. In a simple layout, divide an area into quarters to create an ordered, balanced design and use leafy spheres where pebble or mosaic paths intersect to create a focal point.
Expert tip On a larger scale, you could have multiple axial routes to create views along and across the garden. You could use clipped trees to create a focal point in a circle intersected by a pebbled or paved central path.
pounds How much Bulk bag aggregates, pounds 80 (www.decorativeaggregates.com, 01629 630256).
CLIPPED BOX
ONE plant that conforms to a pattern of geometric shapes is box, as it responds well to pruning and can be clipped into neat hedges or topiary shapes with precise measurements, including sharp-edged pyramids, spheres and cubes.
Expert tip Trim box in late spring, cutting back the new growth to encourage the development of side shoots. These shoots can then be cut in mid summer to create a welldefined hedge or topiary shape – doing this will again encourage side shoots and plants can then be given a final shaping and tidy up if necessary in early autumn.
pounds How much Topiary shears pounds 8.95 (www.topiary- online.co.uk, 0845 644 0626).
HERB DESIGNS
INTERWEAVING plants, such as herbs with differently textured leaves, works well in a formal-style garden, as does a chequerboard layout where the different plant types are separated by paving slabs

RORY GLORY SUITS ANCIENT MARINER

THERE hasn’t been so much attention on Plymouth since comedian Paul Whitehouse signed up for the Green Army on those TV insurance adverts.
Argyle striker Rory Fallon is flavour of the month since he headed New Zealand into the World Cup finals last weekend with the winner against Bahrain – even if his coach at Home Park, Paul Mariner, got there first for England 28 years ago.
And manager Paul Sturrock’s hat, as seen on Sky Sports News, is one of the nattiest titfers since Malcolm Allison was at large under his fedora more than 30 years ago.
Mariner’s goal against Hungary at Wembley took Ron Greenwood’s side to Spain in 1982, they were eliminated from the tournament without losing and FIFA turned a blind eye to the greatest sham of all-time – West Germany’s ‘friendly fire’ tribute to pacifism against neighbours Austria

EIGHT British holidaymakers are suing a South African game park after they were surrounded by lions when their tour vehicle tipped over during a safari outing.
The group is claiming pounds 582,000 for stress and other injuries allegedly suffered in the incident at the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve in the Western Cape in March 2007. Papers in Cape Town high court claim staff failed to control the vehicle, drove too close to the animals and were slow raising the alarm.
The Brits, including a honeymoon couple, say they were in terror as the lions surged towards them as they waited for rescue.

In a Tough Year, Employers Hold the Line on Health Benefit Cost Increases – Mercer Survey
by admin on Nov.21, 2009, under Uncategorized
Business Wire, Nov 20, 2009
NEW YORK — According to the National
Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans, conducted annually by
Mercer and released today, many employers feared that health benefit
cost growth would spike in 2009 as employees, worried about keeping
their jobs and health coverage, consumed more health services than
usual. In fact 2009 saw the lowest annual increase in a decade, as the
average per-employee cost of health benefits rose 5.5 percent to reach
$8,945 after four years of increases of just over 6 percent. However,
benefit cost growth outpaced inflation in 2009 by a widening margin.
Similar cost growth is expected in 2010; employers predicted that
medical plan cost would rise by about 9 percent in 2010 if they simply
renewed their current plans without making any changes. However, they
hope to achieve about a 6 percent increase after making changes to plan
design or changing plan vendors.
Mercers survey
included public and private organizations with 10 or more employees and
2,914 employers responded in 2009.
Small and large employers used different strategies to keep cost growth
down in 2009, said Beth Umland, Mercers director of health and
benefits research. Small employers moved employees into low-cost
consumer-directed health plans and raised PPO deductibles. What jumped
out among large employers was an increase in programs and policies
designed to improve workforce health.
Sharp increase in adoption of health management programs
The ongoing workforce health management/wellness movement gained
momentum in 2009, as virtually every type of program from health risk
assessments to disease management to behavior modification rose
significantly. While not conclusive, survey results suggest these
programs are impactful: medical plan cost increases in 2009 were about
two percentage points lower, on average, among employers with extensive
health management programs. And nearly three-fourths of employers that
measured the return on investment say they are satisfied with the
savings, lower utilization rates or improved health risks

A SPACE shuttle is due to depart tomorrow with some unusual passengers on board – thanks to researchers at the University of Nottingham.
About 4,000 microscopic worms will be on Atlantis. They will live for only a few days but should give scientists at the university and in Japan an insight into what causes muscle wasting in astronauts.
They are seen as the perfect substitute for humans as they suffer the same kind of weight loss.

Sisters are losing it for themselves
by admin on Nov.20, 2009, under Uncategorized

THEY used to be the super-sized sisters – feeling frumpy, fat, fed-up and with a combined weight of nearly 50 stone. But not any more..
Today Katie Perks, Debbie Pierce and Amanda McMurtrie are slim and trim after shedding 22 stone between them.
The sisters, who all live in Shifnal, Shropshire, say their incredible weight loss has transformed their lives.
Debbie, 28, who is married to Wade, 34, an automotive engineer, says: “I’m so proud of us all. We used to be so miserable when we were overweight and spent most of our time indoors. If I ever went out I’d head for the nearest corner and hide away. I was so shy and reserved.
“Now there’s no stopping us. All our partners think they have got new women!” She and Katie, 30, were overweight as teenagers while Amanda piled on the pounds after having her children – Lewis, nine, Leah, four, and Alfie, one.
Debbie, who is mum to Ellie, eight, and Oliver, two, says: “When I was 13 I went into the school changing room and found two girls standing inside my school skirt. It was humiliating, but it didn’t stop me from eating.
“I used to comfort eat. As well as eating big meals, I’d gorge on crisps. Mum used to give us big meals and we’d all clear our plates.
“My nickname was ‘Debbie The Dustbin’ because I’d eat everything and anything. I’d think nothing of getting through five rounds of toast, eight bags of crisps, pie and mash, then having an Indian takeaway for dinner.
“And when I was feeling down I would binge. Food controlled me.”
It was only seeing Katie lose nine stone and drop eight dress sizes, that inspired both of her not-so-little sisters to follow suit. Katie, weighing 18st 5lb, joined the Cambridge Diet slimming club in 2005. But the others held out little hope that she would succeed.
Debbie says: “We had tried all the diets under the sun. We’d gone to slimming groups, done Atkins, the Cabbage Soup Diet – nothing had worked.
“So when Katie said she was trying this new diet, none of us expected it to work.”
But this time Katie – who is married to Andrew, 34, a supermarket store manager, and is a mum to Zoe, five, and Polly, one – meant business. She lost nine stone.
“We were amazed,” says Debbie
